Our Commitment to Protecting Your Personal Information
Your credit union Board of Directors has adopted the Credit Union Code for the
Protection of Personal Information (the code). These Ten Principles were written in
accordance with the Credit Union Central of Canada's Model Privacy Code, which in turn
was developed in accordance with the principles set out by the Canadian Standards
Association (CAN/CSA-Q830, Model Code for the Protection of Personal Information).
The contents of the Code establish the credit union's operational use of personal
information as well as use of employee information.
Ukrainian Credit Union Limited recognizes the importance of protecting the personal
information that it holds respecting it members, employees and others. This policy
outlines the framework of policies and procedures regarding its collection, use, retention
and disclosure of personal information in respect of its members and others and
supplements, where applicable, our professional obligations of confidentiality and
solicitor/client privilege. The term "members" includes all current, former and
prospective members.
The following ten interrelated privacy principles are specified in the Personal Information
Protection and Electronic Documents Act, and form the basis of the code:
Note on Personal Pronouns: the words "you", "your", and "yours" refer to you, either as a member or as an
individual dealing with Ukrainian Credit Union Limited. The words "we", "our", "us" and "ours" refer to
Ukrainian Credit Union Limited.
1. Accountability
We are responsible for personal information under our control and shall designate an
individual who is accountable for our compliance with the principles of the Code.
2. Identifying Purposes
The purposes for which personal information is collected shall be identified by us at or before
the time the information is collected.
3. Consent
Your knowledge and consent are required for the collection, use, or disclosure of personal
information, except where inappropriate or under specific circumstances as described within
the code.
4. Limiting Collection
The collection of personal information shall be limited to that which is necessary for the
purposes identified by us. Information shall be collected by fair and lawful means.
5. Limiting Use, Disclosure and Retention
Your personal information shall not be used or disclosed for purposes other than those for
which it was collected, except with your consent or as required by law. Personal information
shall be retained only as long as necessary for the fulfilment of those purposes.
6. Accuracy
Your personal information shall be as accurate, complete, and up-to-date as is necessary for
the purposes for which it is to be used.
7. Safeguards
Your personal information shall be protected by security safeguards appropriate to the
sensitivity of the information. The credit union will apply the same standard of care it applies
to safeguard its own confidential information of a similar nature.
8. Openness
We shall make specific, understandable information readily available to you about our
personal information policies and practices.
9. Individual Access
Upon request, you shall be informed of the existence, use, and disclosure of your personal
information, and shall be given access to that information. As a member, you are entitled to
question the accuracy and completeness of the information and have it amended as
appropriate.
10. Compliance
You shall be able to question compliance with the above principles to the Privacy Officer
accountable for the credit union's compliance. We shall have policies and procedures to
respond to your questions and concerns.
