Michael Shipowick, Honourary Director
The Shipowick lineage can trace their roots far back in Canadian history as 1891 when Michael’s wife Irene’s grandparents and father arrived in Cudworth, Saskatchewan. Mr. Shipowick joined So-Use Credit Union family over 52 years ago. He held positions of Secretary, Member of Credit Committee, Vice President and President. Currently he serves as an honourary director of Ukrainian Credit Union Limited. As he reflects the early years of the credit unions “those were the days when members joined as a family but today there are many challenges facing credit unions with the influx of so many different financial institutions. The credit unions have always taken the lead with customer service and still continue to lead.”
Mr. Shipowick’s extensive volunteer work involved leadership positions with many community organizations such as the Ukrainian Canadian Professional and Business association in Thunder Bay, Hamilton and Toronto; C.Y.M.K., Ukrainian Canadian Congress- Thunder Bay Chapter; St. Vladimir Institute ; Community Trust, St. Andrews Order. He also was active in other organizations such as the Shriners in helping the Hospital for Sick Children.
