Slawko Borys

DIRECTOR

Slawko (Yaroslaw) Borys was elected to the board in 2013 and serves on the Executive and Pension Committee, and the Budget, Investment and Real Estate Committees of the Board.

Mr. Borys has been involved in the Aviation Industry for the last 13 years, primarily dealing with Flight Operations, Safety & Risk Management and Regulatory Affairs. During his career he has held a number of management positions with Canadian airlines, and is currently Director of Safety, Security and Regulatory Affairs for Air Canada’s new airline, Air Canada rouge. As part of the Airline’s senior management start up team he is responsible for the overall implementation and management of the Airline’s Safety, Security and Environmental management programs.

Prior to joining Air Canada, Mr. Borys was responsible for Flight Operations at Sunwing Airlines and part of the airline’s start up team. With direct oversight and management of the airlines Flight Operations group including pilot hiring, foreign operations, base management, and labour relations. In 2007 Mr. Borys started his own company, Horizon Aviation, which is North America’s first; open to the public, Flight Simulator centre.

In his personal life, Mr. Borys has been actively involved in the Ukrainian Canadian community, as a member of the Ukrainian National Federation, Sokil Property Owners Association and as a representative of the UNF of Canada at the Ukrainian Canadian Congress locally and nationally. Currently Mr. Borys is a member of the Executive of the Ukrainian National Federation – Toronto Branch, and the UNF Board of Directors, as well as a member of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress Executive Committee.

Mr. Borys is a graduate of the Aviation Management program at Georgian College, and has also received professional accreditation in Aviation Risk Management, Safety Management Systems and Quality Auditing.
