Activate your new chip card - Old cards to be deactivated December 31!
If you received a new chip card in the mail, start using it immediately. Your old swipe card will be deactivated on December 31st!
UCU has almost completed converting all debit cards to chip technology. All UCU debit cards now in use should be chip cards. All old chipless cards will be deactivated on December 31st. If you don’t have a chip card to replace your old UCU chipless card yet, please visit your local UCU branch.
If you received a new chip card by mail, please activate it as soon as you can. Your new chip card will have the same card number and personal identification number (PIN) as your existing UCU card. As a result, you will be able to start using your new chip card without any delays. Your existing magnetic stripe card will no longer work after you use the new chip card.
If you are unsure about how to activate your new chip card, please feel free to call our Call Centre 416-922-4407 or 1-800-461-0777 or visit your local branch.
The built-in microchip technology has proven to greatly reduce card fraud and make a safe payment system even safer. Our commitment to ensuring the changeover process is streamlined and uncomplicated is just one of the ways that Ukrainian Credit Union Limited is working for you, our member.

NEW !!!! ACCEL® United States POS Network now available
Ukrainian Credit Union Limited is pleased to announce a new and convenient way to purchase goods in the United States. The ACCEL® Point of Sale (POS) debit network in the United States is now available to all our Members/cardholders. The ACCEL® network is one of the largest POS networks in the United States with more than 1,000,000 merchants in the network. The majority of the top 100 US retailers use ACCEL®.
The ACCEL® network in the United States works exactly the same way debit card purchases work at home with your MemberCard. Purchases are paid for by swiping your MemberCard at the cash register and then verifying the transaction with your confidential PIN. As an added value to you when travelling within the United States, a cash back option is also available at the majority of merchants. The following is a selection of some of the merchants in the network:
|Clarke Oil||TJ Maxx||Echart Drugs|
|Conoco||Foot Locker||US Postal Service|
|Shell||The Bon Macys||Wal-Mart|
Ukrainian Credit Union Limited is introducing debit cards with new chip technology - making a safe payment system even safer! Many of you already have a Ukrainian Credit Union MasterCard® with embedded chip technology, so you will already know that the changeover process is not complicated.
The move to chip technology for debit cards is Ukrainian Credit Union's latest improvement in security in our efforts to protect our members from fraud. Other such improvements include the introduction of Increased Authentication on our online accounts last year.
Highly secure transactions
A chip card is a credit or debit card containing an embedded computer chip, which gives the card the ability to store and process data. Chip cards and chip terminals work together to ensure a highly secure transaction by validating the card and the cardholder. The computer chip provides additional protection to avoid disclosure of personal information and is very difficult to copy, creating a multi-layered defence against fraud and identity theft.
This doesn't mean you should stop doing your part: shield your PIN from prying eyes, never give it away and don't write it down in your purse or wallet.
Your debit chip card is welcome at ATMs and merchants across Canada and around the world through the networks identified on the back of your card.
You can use your debit chip card anywhere in the world - at any Automated Teller Machine (ATM) or retail location on the Interac* and associated international networks.
Magnetic stripe will co-exist with chip card technology to allow you to use your debit card at non-chip-enabled terminals until 2015. In non-chip-enabled terminals, you will swipe your card and enter your PIN the way you do now.
You can keep using your current card until you receive your new chip card.
What will be different for me?
Not much. When using your chip card to make a purchase, it will remain in the merchant's terminal for the duration of the transaction, rather than being "swiped" through. As always, you'll enter your PIN and follow the prompts to complete your transaction. At an ATM you'll notice no difference at all. But in both cases, the chip card protects your information and makes your transaction more secure than ever.
What do I need to do?
You don't have to do anything - you will automatically receive your debit chip card in the mail once your card has been identified for conversion to chip. It will have the same PIN number as your existing card.
Changing your PIN is simple - If you'd like to change your PIN, just go to any UCU or THE EXCHANGE Network ATM to reset your PIN. If you've forgotten your PIN visit your credit union branch to have it reset.
The technology has been tested, proven and is in wide use around the world.
